Phobias

Positive Change Hypnotherapy Gran Canaria

If you suffer from a phobia, whether it’s common, e.g. being scared of flying, scared of open spaces, scared of spiders, insects or wasps, or if your phobia is something less common e.g. fear of books, you know that the fear is real and that it can have a terrible effect on your life.

Hypnosis is an accepted and powerful tool to help you live your life free from fear.

Phobias and fears are produced by anxieties that have become associated with particular situations which have been compounded over time.

Some may seem to serve a genuine purpose (fear of heights, fire, etc.) – mostly however, they appear to be completely irrational.

But do not be fooled!

All phobias have a cause and these causes can be addressed and removed.

The most common cause is usually an historic event from one’s youth that provoked overwhelmingly powerful emotions. Because they were so powerful and intense the individual decides enough is enough. The incident and associated emotions are then conveniently buried or bottled up.

The original cause of the phobia can usually be traced back to early childhood. For instance, a fear of spiders is often thought to be hereditary. A child sees a parent scared of spiders and decides that this is appropriate behaviour. What follows is an inherited fear of spiders (or whatever the stimulus for the fear happens to be).

Phobias that respond particularly well to Hypnotherapy include:

  • Aerophobia fear of flying
  • Acrophobia fear of heights
  • Agoraphobia fear of open spaces
  • Arachnophobia fear of spiders
  • Claustrophobia fear of enclosed spaces
  • Emetophobia fear of being sick
  • Entomophobia fear of insects
  • Hydrophobia fear of water
  • Ophidiophobia fear of snakes
  • Pyrophobia fear of fire
  • Spheksophobia fear of wasps
  • Xenophobia fear of strangers

It is hidden away memories and emotions that can and often will, create a phobia. The phobia then continues to serve as a warning of the approach of a potentially similar incident for you to avoid.

Kevin O’Brien can find and release the emotions which originally caused or created the phobia and just as simply as releasing those bottled-up emotions, the phobia itself will simply disappear.

People achieve remarkable resultsĀ from one-to-one Hypnotherapy sessions with Positive Change Hypnotherapy. Kevin teaches his clients to reach inside and achieve amazing results.

Usually a single session, lasting perhaps an hour and a half, is all that is required, although sometimes it can take more sessions depending on your individual needs.

Advice and Tips for Phobias

Having a fear of something is common. No matter what your fear is you can be sure phobias can impact your life in many ways.

Each individual phobia is different and no single program will work for everyone. A self-help programme could include:

  • Hypnotherapy
  • attending a self-help group
  • using self-exposure therapy to try to overcome your fear, or a combination of these.

Hypnotherapy

Probably the best treatment of phobias using quick dynamic therapy.

Self-exposure therapy

Self-exposure therapy (desensitisation) involves gradually increasing the length of time that you are exposed to the object of your phobia.

If you have agoraphobia (a fear of open spaces and public places), you might begin with going outside of your house for a short time and gradually increase the time you spend outside and the distances you travel from your house.

Other self-help techniques

Other self-help techniques include:

  • a series of physical exercises that may help you relax and control your breathing.
  • visualisation: combines relaxation and breathing techniques with mentally visualising how you will successfully deal with a situation that could cause anxiety.
